Dear Ujjwal and other Colleagues and supporters of TND,
I invite your participation in the first "eConference on the Non-violent Resolutions of Armed Conflicts" to be held on the eParliamentIDL (http://www.eParliament.org/idl/) from 8 to 25 December 2003. It is a matter of pride that this eConference also coincides with, and shares the spirits and scopes of the 55th anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human Rights, World Summit on Information Society (10-12 December, Geneva, Switzerland), 4th International Conference of Chief Justices of the World (12-14 December, Lucknow, India, ) and 5th International Conference on Information Technology in Regional Areas (15-17 December, Caloudra, Australia).
During this period, I appeal you to participate in this virtual and asynchronous
eConference to discuss about the present and future of those 37 regions of armed
conflicts which are bathing in the bloods of countless innocent people, and have
become a mockery to peace, justice, human rights, democracy and development.
In order to register with the eConference on a particular country, send a blank
email with subject "subscribe" (no quotation marks) to nepal@eParliament.org. Alternatively, you can use alternative links under "How to Register to eConferences?" section at the bottom of this call.
The key point of this asynchronous eConference is "What is impeding the peace process (in the country you have registerd to), and how to overcome it?"
The questions for discussions are:
* Question 1: How do you see the link of the armed conflicts with interests of foreign powers, terrorist groups, arms dealers, mafia, and vested internal political, religious and business interests? And Do you see any role of third parties or international organizations like UN for mediation?
* Question 2: How do you personally assess the violations of civil, political, social, economic and other allied rights of people due to the armed conflicts? What are your recommentdations (policy-related and/or at operational level) to give peace a chance other than specified in the background paper?
* Question 3: How to resolve the crisis? How to motivate the parties- in-conflicts and innocent citizens to act towards peace? What role could civil society play? What role for business? How could the epistemic community of researchers, academics and diplomats help?
* Question 4: Do you think grassroots initiatives like eParliament.org could offer a virtual forum for online mediation and peacebuilding? Why and how?
* Question 5: Will an eConference of this kind generate a renewed consensus for peaceful resolutions? Why and how?
Please try to be as specific as possible as stated in the Terms and Conditions of use which was sent to you during registration confirmation.
Kindly send all your inputs to: nepal@eParliament.org
Regards,
Dr. Sichendra Bista
