Apple relies on tata group for production of iPhones in India

New Delhi, (EFE).- The Government of India announced on Friday that the Indian conglomerate Tata Group will manufacture Apple’s iPhone mobile devices in India, targeting both the domestic and international markets.

Within two-and-a-half years, the Tata Group will start manufacturing iPhones from India for domestic and global markets.”

Taiwanese supplier Wistron Corp, until now has been responsible for collecting the products from the giant Apple in the Asian countryapproved the acquisition of its Indian subsidiary by Tata for an approximate value of $125 million, the company said in a statement.

The decision is part of the American giant Apple’s new strategy to move its manufacturing exercise from Chinawhere it produces most of its iPhones for global distribution, and is betting on other emerging markets in Asia, such as India.

Although the high price of most of their products keeps Apple out of the five most popular phone companies in the country, Apple dominates the “luxury” sector with a 60% market share by 2022according to the International Data Corporation (IDC).
