At least nine people died and three others were injured this Sunday after an explosion at an explosives factory in western India, official sources reported.

“Nine people, including six women, were killed in an explosion at the Solar Industries factory in the city of Nagpur,” Maharashtra state deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said in a statement to the press.

Solar Industries is a factory dedicated to the manufacture of drones and explosives.

The incident “occurred at the time of packaging at the foundry reinforcement plant,” said Nagpur Superintendent of Police Harsh Poddar.

At this time, the causes of the explosion have not been reported.

According to the authorities, twelve people were inside the factory area when the incident occurred.

Industrial accidents or fires are frequent in India, often due to lack of safety measures, poor state of infrastructure or lack of maintenance, factors driven by corruption and illegal practices.
