Filmoteca hosts the opening and closing of the Prime the Animation! festival.

València, October 24 (EFE).- The Valencian Film Library will host the opening and closing sessions of the eleventh edition of the international animation festival Prime the Animation!, which will be held from Wednesday, October 25 to Saturday, October 28.

The festival has an extensive program of activities that will take place in three main locations: the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), the Filmoteca Valenciana and Las Naves, the Generalitat reported in a statement.

The international festival for new animation talent Prime the Animation! It is organized by UPV in collaboration with IVC’s La Filmoteca Valenciana, Cañada Blanch Foundation and Las Naves, among other collaborators.

It is the only festival in Spain aimed at new talents and debut films with international animation. For eleven years, it has collected the works of students from the best animation schools and emerging professionals in the animation sector from around the world.

The 2023 edition has received 1,336 short films from schools and debut films from 90 countries, of which 75 short films from more than 30 countries have been selected, which can be seen together in six programs in the Alfons Roig Auditorium at the Faculty of Arts in Valencia, on the 26th and 27th. October.

Saturday 4 November and Sunday 5 November at 18.00 La Filmoteca Valenciana shows a seventh special program entitled ‘Prime the Animation! Junior’, within the monthly Menuda Filmo cycle, dedicated to children.

Wednesday 25 October at 20:00 La Filmoteca hosts the opening session where ‘Unicorn Wars’ (2022) will be screened, written and directed by Alberto Vázquez, who will be in the Berlanga room to present his film to the public.

Winner of the Goya Award for Best Animated Feature in 2022, ‘Unicorn Wars’ is a film where a battle between teddy bears and unicorns turns into a deep political reflection and a fierce anti-war diatribe.

Alberto Vázquez, WHO has four Goya awards in his career, will offer a lecture on directing to students of the UPV Master’s Degree in Animation.

At the same time as World Animation Day, La Filmoteca Valenciana will on Saturday 28 October at 20.15 will host the end of the festival, where the award-winning projects and shorts will be announced and the award winners will be projected.
