Mikel Zabalza, Iker Madoz and Juan Vallejo climb a virgin peak in the Nepalese Himalayas before their big goal

This week they are already planning to meet the main goal of their expedition to the Nepal Himalayas, but in the meantime Navarrese Mikel Zabalza and Iker Madoz and Alavés Juan Vallejo have been able to enjoy doing so first ascent to a peak of more than 6,000 meters.
The trio of mountaineers completed this past Sunday, October 8, within the acclimatization necessary for the project, the ascent to a virgin peak that they have called ‘Little Phurbi’ -the main goal of the trip is Phurbi Chhyachu (6,337m), which is why they decided to name it with that nod- and which rises 6,140 meters in Jugal Himalon the border between Nepal and China, northeast of the capital Kathmandu.

A mountain “with a very dizzying summit” and it prevented them from “being able to gather at the same time” at the top, having to take turns to be able to take pictures at it.

The group, which has today arrived back at its rest camp – very well located, close to water and in a grassy field, where they arrived on the 30th after complicated approachthrough “very wild and inhospitable” terrain and with the added discomfort of suffers several bites from leeches-, he made the climb “at once.”

Thus, with all the necessary material on their backs, they climbed from the base to the top, “with of vivacs“-two nights of sleep outdoors – and in an activity in a “spectacular” mountain with an ascent that was “very tough.”

Having solved this test in a very positive way – a ‘test’ that has allowed them to check their acclimatization, their good form and the strength of the team – Madoz, Zabalza and Vallejo will face in the same week, possibly on Thursday attempt to sign the second repeat at 6,337 meters of Phurbi Chhyachuwhich has recorded only one ascent in history: that achieved in May 1986 by a Japanese expedition through the southwest ridge.
